Anew School of Leadership

~ a retreat for leaders seeking clarity, connection and time to think ~

The world around us feels heavy.

Being confronted with many of the realities of our time makes for complicated thoughts and emotions. What is it that this time asks of us? How do we make sense of the complexity of the world within and around us? What intentions do we set for what lies ahead? What skills, habits and ways of being do we want to cultivate to build that future? How do we build meaningful lives in thriving teams, organisations and countries? More importantly, how can we rise above the daily fray to think about these questions when stuck in the relentless throw of life?

Reality is paradoxical.

While it is a fascinating time to lead, we are also living in an enormously challenging age where leaders in all industries grapple with finding coherent responses to:

  • change that occurs so rapidly and pervasively that responses are almost always reactive;

  • the implication and opportunity of dizzying technological and digital advances,

  • enormous geopolitical shifts,

  • a rapidly expanding smorgasboard of complex, interdisciplinary challenges that require nuanced and urgent solutions,

  • deepening polarisation in a time of instant connection,

  • a climate crisis that is putting the future of our species at great risk,

  • ongoing, horrific acts of terror and war that make the promise of continued peace feel like a pipedream; and,

  • the emotional response of all of the above on the human beings they lead.

But, that is of course not the full picture.

Because the world we live in also is one of great promise, filled with the indomitable human spirit of progress and optimism. There are countless leaders stepping up in every type of organisation, leading with empathy and heart. As much as there is fear, there is also the hope to continue building a better world, and to do this, placing a strong focus on the ‘building blocks’ of this better world: teams, organisations, communities, countries, regions.

We are in support of the individuals who want to strengthen their own ability to build a better world.

We know that it takes a lot to lead within this context: enormous self awareness, holistic intelligence, grit, innovativeness, courage, groundedness, clarity, empathy, HEART. We also know that to access and cultivate these qualities, what most leaders need, desperately, is a reprieve from the world - solely for themselves - where they can think deeply about cultivating their intentional response to the world, while connecting to others, themselves, and to nature.

And so the Anew School of Leadership was born.

Profoundly necessary and aptly timed, the Anew School of Leadership is a bespoke leadership retreat designed to create space for leaders to connect with each other, themselves and the environment around them through a series of thematic conversations, body work, delicious meals and time for self reflection.

What does the School of Leadership entail?

During this 3-day retreat-like programme - which includes accommodation for 3 nights - you will have the opportunity to:

  • Deepen your awareness of your own leadership purpose, behaviours and impact, and consider how you want to change and broaden it during the year ahead;

  • Work deliberately with the needs of the stakeholders in your team, organisation and community, and consider ways to respond to these needs empathetically and authentically;

  • Discover how language is the tool through which leaders create reality and work with your own use of this ‘ultimate human technology’ as you carve out your contribution in the world;

  • Use language to step into the role of ‘Leader as Coach’, exploring the role of impactful questions in leadership;

  • Work with the moods of our time, and find ways to connect with the emotional spaces of those you lead;

  • Work with your body through breathing and mindfulness practices, walking and being in nature; and,

  • Have the opportunity to think deeply through core challenges and opportunities for yourself, setting intentions for the year ahead and mapping the network of support you’ll need to enable this.

In addition, we are committed to doing all of the above in a beautiful environment with easy access to nature, while enjoying deliciously made food and connection with fellow participants.
